Mechanical Retention System

Mechanical Retention System

Mechanical retention on the backing plate eliminates the risk of the friction material separation caused by the higher moisture concentration and longer life of EV brake pads.

Original Equipment Manufacturers specify mechanical retention between the steel backing plate and friction material based on the highly specific application design needs for high load ICE vehicles, such as performance sports cars, trucks and heavy SUVs.

It is not uncommon to find EV with over 150.000 kms and the original set of pads in use. This is due to regenerative braking creating most of the braking force. In these conditions, brake pads never reach ICE vehicles operating temperatures and corrosion could occur between the backing plate and friction material due to the fact that the pads never dry the moisture out. Some failure modes like edge lift or chunking might appear if friction is only bonded to the backing plate with adhesive. All EV brake pads should have mechanical retention to guarantee friction bonding.

NRS technology bonds the friction material to the plate more securely and cost effectively than any adhesive or other mechanical attachment method:

• Eliminates friction delamination risk, increasing final user safety

• Reduces Warranty Rates

• Simplifies Friction Processing making it more efficient

• Greener Manufacturing Solution, as adhesive can be eliminated or significantly reduced.
